Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund was started in 1985 by a small group of neighbors in Seattle’s Mount Baker community and is a sponsored activity of the Mount Baker Community Club in an effort to honor the work and dreams of Dr. King. The goal of this scholarship is to help deserving students achieve the dream of a higher education. The scholarship seeks out students who show financial need and academic promise, have overcome obstacles, and who contribute to their community. Twelve scholarships will be awarded to local high school seniors who plan to attend two- or four-year accredited colleges or universities, and are from ethnic or racial groups that are underrepresented in higher education.
We are pleased to announce that, starting in 2020, the scholarship fund has partnered with College Success Foundation (CSF) to provide non-financial support to our scholars. This means scholarship recipients and their families will receive robust support before, during and after college, while recognizing the myriad of challenges faced along the way. Additionally, CSF provides evidence-based guidance on our scholarship program structure and will enable us to measure and improve the impact we make on student enrollment, retention and completion.
